Your bill at the pump is paid by your car's shocks & struts!
Your bill at the pump is paid by your car's shocks & struts!
Idea Description
The energy generated by cars' shocks and struts is wasted and dissipated into the atmosphere in a form of heat. This contributes to overheating the Planet.
We could employ the vibrating shock absorbers' linear movement by the electrical energy generator apparatuses. Those electrical generators integrated with struts systems will generate electrical energy from waste to propel cars directly, or to be stored in electrical batteries for reuse.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
I would use funds to develop this feasible idea further. I would contact universities, research labs and car manufacturers, perhaps the government - trying to get all to be involved in this simple solution correcting problems we are causing, in our joint effort to protect our Planet.
This concept is posted as free and open idea for everyone to develop. The goal of publishing on the IdeaBlob is to disallow any patent claims, restrictions and monopolization. This open source project anyone can use and monetize on, while still actively contributing to our efforts to protect the Environment.
Vote for it now.

Q1: How to deploy ASAP this concept, since we are running against a time?

I like your idea; I want to improve your odds of getting funding I will vote for your idea if you will vote for mine. My idea is for a web site that raises money for inventors and entrepreneurs called New Idea website Check out my idea blob submission and visit New Idea Website and see what I can do for you. http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/4060-NEW-IDEA-WEBSITE The need for jobs is one of the biggest problems that a democratic government faces because creating jobs is an unwanted byproduct of business and industry. The reason I say its unwanted is the more jobs a business creates the more its expenses are and the smaller it’s bottom-line. If business and industry have their way they would run their companies with no jobs at all no management or labor. To deal with this dilemma I pr…moreopose a federal venture capital carrot fund that literally pays entrepreneurs to create jobs. The investment bank would be expected invest in seed level startup projects like yours and to lose money at a specified dollar per jobs ratio for example during hard times that figure may be as high as $20,000 per job and good times the figure may be as low as five dollars per job, by controlling this ratio the fed could roughly control unemployment. The bank will be expected to fund novel products and services and stay away from things like restaurants that will simply draw jobs from other restaurants or moving factories from one part of the country to another. If you like this idea vote for it and send the congressional letter from the website. Sincerely Frank Scruggs
p.s. "blowing on sails" has nothing to do with this --- cars now have to push air out of the way, fan in tube would simply put some of that lost energy to work for once !
note to EUROVISION--- suggest comparing std car w/ frontal area "X" and car w/ tube and fan w/same frontal area, but some of prior "pure drag" force and momentum imparted to air in front of vehicle to move it aside is now directed to "fan in tube" and energy normally lost is directed to impart momentum to turn the fan---all 4 laws of thermo and all laws of physics perfectly accomodated---think about it more and write add'l comments if you can show otherwise ...
Thanks Soverholt001 for your very good comment; anything attached to the car, whether in the front, rear, side or inside the car, or at the alternator in tubes running in the direction of travel - it is still the closed thermodynamic system equilibrium. About fans or turbines along the highways – great idea – it was part of EUROVISION provisionary patent portfolio in the past. We conceived it as very inexpensive to manufacture turbines/generator/rechargeable batteries/lights with purpose to place along the highways as self-contained systems to light the edges of the highways for safety improvements after dark. We are adding it as an open system so everyone can benefit from development. As always, we are encouraging all to embrace the concept.
comment to soverholt001--- agreed, not around the car, that would add to the "frontal area" ... but " through the car' fan alternator in one or 2 tubes running in the direction of travel...no increase in frontal area, same or less drag as some of air velocity used to turn fan, some remains leaving tube (s) in rear
Eurovision is absolutely correct on the fact that there is no way to make use of the air flow around a car to produce net energy. No way possible as long as there is any attachment to the car. The drag will exceed the energy produced. Jets don't make use of this concept because it is absolutely impossible. One could conceive of a system of fans or turbines aligned along an interstate that turn due to the wake of trucks, etc. That would produce net energy, but may not be economically feasible.
comparison was to car with no tube, i.e. air flow already blocked, and jets don't do that because already minimal "frontal area and still squeeze in all the people by long fuselage as possible, same with trains, ideal car would be all people behind one another and as small a frontal area as possible !
Don't you think that fans installed inside the "tube" would not block the airflow and add to the friction "drag force" and demanding more energy from the system?
If true...why jets don't have this invention installed?
comment to EUROVISION--fan outside of prior "frontal area" of cars or aircraft---agreed, no such thing as "free lunch"...fan in tube running length of vehicle (car or plane) in direction of travel, in place of prior "frontal area" presto, takes prior static "drag force" and converts it into a torque and rpm which equals useful work and HP or KW ! does not violate any of the 4 laws of thermodynamics
The energy is already wasted in any vehicle as force applied to shocks and struts. The concept is to use electric energy generators arrays, (for example coils in a magnetic field), to regain this waste in form of electricity. It is astonishing how many people are mistaking regarding closed thermodynamic systems. Any vehicle is a thermodynamic system. Spinning wheels energy used to generate energy cannot generate any extra energy for the use by its own system without a penalty. There must be extra energy needed to compensate for friction, etc. Adoration to the air-fan-alternator is a simply no go idea. Fan meant to employ the air moving through the car’s embodiments is simply adding friction to the car, and this thermodynamic system must add more energy to compensate. Physics,…more the scientific study of matter, energy, force, and motion, and the way they relate to each other, determined this centuries ago: The Laws of Thermodynamics cannot be violated. Please ask why aeronautic engineers are not attaching exterior fans to the airplanes to get an extra energy to propel planes, or, why, while sitting inside the boat, a person cannot blow on sail to move the sailboat.

Check out this article - http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/06/27/mccains-battery-award-offer-could-pay-for-existing-technology/. You should contact someone on the McCain campaign and share your idea with them. Maybe they can roll your idea into the reward. I think you are on to something. Thanks for your innovation.
Thank you for your comments. Your efforts helps perfecting the idea - to make it commercially feasible so you and others can develop. The whole issue is how to regain the mechanical energy otherwise wasted, the temperature is this waste a byproduct. What we now disregard seeing as a small amount of energy could be enhanced as I previously said about generators’ set in arrays to multiply the output. Please take a look on solar energy initially ignored by many as not lot energy there. Nowadays, solar panels arrays and wind turbines arrays are very viable and in use everywhere. Thanks again for your post and please help with your thoughts which are very valuable.
add'l comment to EUROVISION---even for heavy vehicles and bumpy roads, not a lot of energy there ---sugest calling Monroe of Sachs and they can give you real world temperature numbers vs. actual road data undulations
agreed, air-fan-alternator above and this shock absorber idea very different, shock energy now goes to waste heat in shock internal oil getting hot via fluid friction going through internal valves and orifices, air-fan alternator very different--see comments on that posting
Forgot to mention, for those with skills in Physics its obvious that this idea is not a Perpetuum Mobile. Let's explain, since cars travels against the air regardless, this idea is about thermodynamics outside of the so called closed system, which means would not affect the energy cars are consuming already to travel.
Thanks for your comment. Your computations are a great start! Since our roads are notoriously bumpy, with many cracks and potholes, there are a lot of vibrations on shocks during any short or long distance travels (check it out looking at your neighbor car, be careful, though:-). Now, since this is an open project anyone can monetize on, the arrays of electromagnetic coils, and so on, can exponentially increase the electrical energy output. Not to mention, the heaviest the load, the bigger the benefit, what you have been pointed to. Thanks for this. At least for once fat people can be definitely beneficiary winners from the idea. Thank you again! Please share your thoughts and contribute in developing the project! And vote!
easy enough to calculate, shock force x distance traveled = work in ft lbs, that divided by time it takes to travel that shock stroke gives hp, and 750 watts= 1 hp, so on very bumpy roads at relatively high speeds, may be able to get 2-3 hp, and it takes 10-15 "road load hp" to keep a car moving through the air at 60 mph (ref fan idea above), however, most miles driven are on fairly smooth roads, so shock produce the heat equivalent of approx. 0.1 hp, but every little bit could help if up front cost and weight penalty worth it.
