Develop a Child Carseat Alert Device, so no child can be left unattended in a car
Idea Description
To design & develop a device that would attach to a childs carseat & be able to detect when a child was in a carseat, be able to detect if the car was on or off, & that would sound the cars horn simutaneously if left unattended w/the child still in their carseat. For cars that have services such as OnStar installed it could also call OnStar or other service. Too many children are being left in cars & dieing because adults "forget" the child in the car. It's a start to hopefully saving a life.

great idea
great idea. you can use existing technology to make this fairly inexpensive. in most new cars there is a device that turns the passengers side air bag on or off depending on the weight (or lack thereof) in the seat. you could use the same device to produce your idea.
sound good to me we need to do what ever we can for the kids

Yes, I understand that a somewhat similar device is available. However, what I have in mind would not be "easily" removable, but installed on the base of carseats by the manufacturer. The device would not just alert a parent or responsible adult via a keyring device, but alert anyone within audible distance of the car horn blarring. If you have ever heard the saying, "It takes a village to raise a child", well I believe every person in that village need to be alerted if or when any child is in danger. I hope this gives you more insight to the device I have in mind and I do sincerely appreciate you comments and everyone reviewing my idea. Thank you!
Cars N Kids Inc has already made this device and is in the process of being it to market. you can see it at www.carsnkids.com Your idea is very good if you win donate to Kids and cars .org she does a lot of work on this subject.
OK, so there is an alarm going off in a parking lot; how much attention does anyone pay to car alarms anymore? How would someone know it means a child in danger, not just another panic button on a key fob? The bigger problem is how to alert the PARENT that the child is on the car. Did you know it is not illegal in all states to leave your baby in a parked car?
Don't get me wrong, I would like to see something like this happen: I'd also like to see it extended to animals left in cars in the hot sun. I actually saw a dog get killed this way. And so I voted for your idea.
