Nonprofit Wishlist
Nonprofit Wishlist
Idea Description
My idea is to setup a website where non-profits could post a wishlist of items they would like to have donated. They wouldn't be able to say "money" -- this site would be for nonprofits looking for equipment, books, etc. For instance, a school might ask for two new laptops for their mobile lab. People would be able to search for tangible donations they would like to make. I think consumers like to see where their donations go and get a sense of satisfaction from making a specific dream a reality. Through this website, they would be able to do that.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
With the 10k, I would begin the website development and seek out help in creating a business plan.

Q1: I need a catchy title for this project. Any ideas?

This is a great idea. It could also list what nonprofits and companies have to give away as well as what nonprofits need. We had a similar website here in Hawaii. It was a lot of work for the administrators and it no longer exists. But a few years back when we downsized our nonprofit we gave away dozens of desks, file cabinets, computers and other supplies to schools, recreation centers, churches and other nonprofits. The administrator kept an email list and sent out emails when notified of who needed what and who had what to give away. We also had a website for Hawaii that we could to to that anyone could benefit from- it included give aways from companies (like overstocked paint, etc) and items for barter. Good luck!
I really like your idea. There is so much waste in this world and so many computers and other equipment that ends up as e-waste. I too have thought of ways in which I can get universities to donate their outdated computers and lab equipment etc. for developing countries. Here's a thought though: Couldn't non-profits go to a website such as free-cycler for their wish list needs? I'll think of catchy phrases for you and report back. best, natalie - the earth garden project
Would you expect to make money on this venture? From ads? This may be better structured as a portal for charities. You could probably get some seed money to get it launched and then charge the charities a listing fee. This would probably cover operating costs. I think that if you got enough traffic, then the investment by the charity would be a worthwhile expense.
