  I think that this would be a great idea. My first question would be: How's the location for this type of business? But since you are very familiar with the are, you would know the answer to this question.
  
  The next step would be to do a little research in your area for other similar types of coffee shops. Are there a lot of independent coffee shops around there? Are there college students and business men/women in the area that could easily flock there?
  
  Once you have the location and demographic figured out, you should figure out what fair trade coffee company you want to use. Are you going to roast your own coffee? If so, you could also sell it by the pound in your store. Here is an example of a coffee shop that also roasts their own beans.   You should also figure out exactly what you are going to have on your menu as well, and what resources you need to do this.
  
  I would also consider only allowing people to rent those rooms to live in that will work in your coffe…moree shop. This way you don't have to pay your employees, they would work for rent.
