Green Organic School Kitchen
Green Organic School Kitchen
Idea Description
With healthy food being a real problem in our school system today, and my children coming home hungry more days than not despite being on the free lunch program due to lack of viable options for lunch, there needs to be something done to remedy it.
I'd use the money to develop an organic kitchen to provide meals for the two local public schools in my community. It would be supplied with produce by the Regional farms and other local providers, therefore creating a cycle of sustainability as well as providing healthy meals for our children.
We would work closely together to create a fair trade system for the providers, while still making the meals affordable for the families or the school.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
I will meet with the small business and agriculture community representatives in the area and gain their advice. I will work closely with the educational system to make sure that their needs are fully represented and met.
Vote for it now.

I have always thought something should be done to help schools offer more appetizing, nutritious meals. I like the idea of bringing the community together for this project.
Thank you very much for your comment! I appreciate your input. I am very excited about this. I tried to get a job working in the kitchen here at the local school. But they thought that my ideas of cooking healthfully for the kids were to radical. They didn't think that the kids would eat the food, and they didn't want to spend the money. They ended up hiring a lady for the second year in a row who buys large cans of mystery food, mixed fruit, and is closely overseen by a **** woman who insists that each child only get two ounce portions of each product. My kids have always been very tall and healthy for their size, about 2-3 years ahead of their age, and they need more than 4 ounces of food on their plate. They come home starving most days.
