Idea Description
I would like to utilize local college students to provide Before and After school care and Evening care for children in the area. College students frequently have flexible schedules and the need for part-time work. I have employed local students as summer day-care providers and after school care providers for several years and would like to start a business of offering these type of services to others. I have found that certain types of students work better than others, but I think there is a demand for this type of service in my area.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Next steps would be to put together a business model. I need to develop processes for hiring and managing students, advertising and attracting clients, procedures and policies for student interaction with clients, and managing receivable collections and payroll. The $10k would allow me to supplement the lost income from my current job while pursuing this business as well as cover startup costs of bonding and insurance on employees and legal work determining liability

Are you aware of (and have you contacted) the owner of collegenannies.com ? I believe I saw him speak at an entrepreneur conference a few years ago... as I recall he came across as a bit smarmy, but it sounded like they were making boatloads of money. With a bit of additional search engine work, it seems he won 1st prize in the 2003 Global Student Entrepreneur Awards, so you may be able to find some details by looking that up, as well.
