  Choose 5 of the most creative original bands that stand out and don't fall into trends that way too many bands our doing today! This will get hype going about a "Detroit Sound" That will draw a lot of attention to this event and this City, like the early 90's Grunge from Seattle did.

  As for the too many talented bands to pick from.. why not host a battle of the bands type event inviting all the local bands and the top five or whatever could go ahead and play at this venue (as it would be exposure for them and of course they would get paid as well) .
