holistic approach to learning
holistic approach to learning
Idea Description
Everyone learns in a different way. People who remember an insane amount of "useless information" for instance: every word to a movie, actors, the words to your favorite jingle or every song you here on the radio. When it comes to school work your stumped, you just cant seem to be interested in retaining the information. Lets say your preparing for a spelling test. your teacher says writing the words 10 times each will help, well it doesn't. what is our idea to helping you retain the spelling words? we fill a baking sheet with rice and have you spell the words out in rice using your finger. a group comes into the school to teach alternative methods to learning/studying skills.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?

Q1: proving to schools that you dont need a teaching degree for your methods to work.
Teach For America is helping to prove just that (but their members still generally work toward certification - it's a requirement). I like your idea for spelling. Could you teach in a private school to hone your program? Unfortunately, I don't think we will be able to convince school districts that teaching degrees are not critical anytime soon. They're tied too much to policy and teacher unions. You seem like you have good ideas. Maybe you should start an after school program in your community.
