Mentoring At Risk Youth through Action Sports
Mentoring At Risk Youth through Action Sports
Idea Description
Stoked Mentoring is a non profit action sports organization for “at risk” youth with the mission of developing Successful Teens with Opportunity, Knowledge, Experience, and Determination through the use of action sports, mentoring, and coaching. Through hands-on partnerships with local high schools in New York & Los Angeles, Stoked oversees several programs yearly, including Snow Mentor (snowboard mentoring), Skate Mentor (skateboard mentoring) and Surf Mentor (surf mentoring). Each multi-week seasonal program, Stoked matches a youth and mentor, both of whom are beginners at the sport. The learning process serves as the groundwork and means for enhancing the mentoring relationship.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
We would do the following:
1. Conduct our surf and skate mentor programs in New York & Los Angeles. We intend to take nearly 100 youth skateboarding and surfing this year.
2. Put together an online marketing campaign aimed at increasing male mentors in New York & Los Angeles.
3. Invest in a web application to streamline our program management so that we can better evaluate the effectiveness of our programs.
