Q1: Maintaining property rights to our work. We have resolved not to work on the project during our current job but, this makes our time limited. Does anyone know proprietary laws well enough to give advice on intellectual property?
Idea Description
With increased federal over-sight of educational programs our product will be developed from both ends of the accountability perspective. It will meet student and family needs through enabling service providers to offer higher quality programming and it will use oversight tools as the basis for administrative monitoring. A director will know at any time how well the program is meeting student needs and satisfying high-stakes accountability mandates with a click of their mouse.
Our Solution -
Provide educators Web 2.0 tools, database applications, and seamless integration of student information, individualization, lesson planning, parental involvement, and student progress.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Hire a SQL/coldfusion programmer to develop the online tools that currently exist as isolated online databases, excel documents, and in paper-based forms. The partners in this project have extensive web page and education background but not the expertise to develop an online application quickly.
Begin a slow roll out web campaign that documents the development and release of our rightstart Solutions suite.

First thing I would do is get a pattent. Even if you don't see yourself making money on this project right away it is worth the time to make sure SOME ONE ELSE DOESN'T.
Hiring a web designer would be a really good idea, even if you had the time. Web designers know there trade and know how to manage the infromation in a way you might not even think of... such as in terms of gig transfers and such.
This is a great idea, and I hope it unfolds
