Idea Description
For MILLIONS of children throughout the world that have been effected by violence, natural disasters, or other life threatening struggles or those who are "at risk" to violence. Our goal is to teach children how to garden in a small space near their home or village. Then use various teaching metaphors in the garden to help provide food and overcome the violence. We will also implement a children's literature program and key on books that instill hope and inspiration. We are starting with the DR of Congo; we have already been given land in Kinshasa to expedite our cause. There are over 50,000 homeless children in the Congo. We will build or renovate a school for some of these children.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Over the last seven months we have had thousands of volunteer hours that have saved us over $100,000. We will continue to run lean on overhead so that the children's needs always come first.
We will use this money to pay for gardens, books, and other items for these children.
Build more awareness for our cause.
Pay for translation work and printing for these books.
Grant proposals
Fundraising projects
Trip to the Congo
Education for worldwide needs
Help build the school
Helping "at risk" children in the US with our program.

I really love this idea. Reading is key for bringing the present and future generations out of poverty. We need to get millions of books over to these countries where their children can lead the way into literacy and out of the darkness of poverty and economic hardships.
This is a wonderful idea. The stated objective of bringing acceptance of people for others is powerful and there are several side benifits too. Like, helping children to read, which is a major step to education in general and to advancing themselves in particular. This is a worthy idea.

I really hope that this charity wins! Books really do make such an impact on people. I can think of numerous books over my life that have helped shape me for the better, Dr. Seuss wrote a bunch of them! Please let me know if and when you need any volunteers- I'll be there!

Bringing peace and comfort to those children in war-torn countries is crucial. I like the book idea. I even think you could expand on it even more!

Wonderful advice given so far and it is great to hear the ideas flowing from this project. The book is a great idea and the Congo has many talented artists and this is such a great story that getting something like that published could go over big. But lets us not loose the focus on the biggest problem and that is, HUNGER. This project has so much merit and opportunity to change not just a Childs life but a community, region and even country! Who knows maybe a continent? In the my opinion and the advise I would offer is to discover a way that individuals, families and communities could sponsor a child with enough resource to get the seeds and enough head start to take a child off the street for life. And it sounds like to me there are 4 growing seasons so this project really can save a chi…moreld from hunger for the rest of their lives. Then have the ability to update the sponsor vie pictures and progress reports of the child as they grow and post it to a website that sponsors can log into to see their Childs and garden and life growth. That would be way cool! This is going to be bigger then I think even I can understand, we are starting a revolution, in a good way. 10 Carrots, 6 potatos, 4 ears of corn, and a few yellow sqwash in ever pot in the Congo. I like the sound of that.
Congo Kid, You hit a solid point that we can not let HUNGER, be on the sidelines with the issues facing the Congo. When these children are nurished they will be able to better tackle the challenges of life and the conditions they face. We appreciate the input on the sponsor program too.
