Intergenerational Programs Tying Young People to Older Adults
Idea Description
As an advocate for older adults, I spend a lot of time around seniors. They have a rich and wonderful legacy and so much to teach and give. Sadly their stories are often forever lost. Last year working with a a middle school teacher we had her class complete an assignment where they went and videotaped interviews with seniors asking about their lives. The idea was to connect the generations. And on this small scale it worked. I would like to take this idea, expand it and then use social media like You Tube to connect generations.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
We would take the tools and templates we have and formalize them. Next we would use the seed money to reach out to schools to make this part of the curriculum. Then if needed we would buy some basic video cameras and editing software to assist the kids as they complete their projects. Any remaining funds would be used for PR to call attention and virally spread this important endeavor.
Vote for it now.
Excellent idea! Seniors have such wisdom and rich lives to share with others. It gives them great joy to serve in this role. Young people have so much to learn from this treasured population.
Oh, man ... I believe you have hit the bull's EYE. The classical home structure of yesteryear is pretty much lost and the young are reeling from it. Needless mistakes are made because of missing information and reluctance and lack of finances to employ psychologists to offer solution pathways to choose from. Broken marrieages and parentless children are the result. I'll help anyway I can. Visit me and we'll talk!
I think you could easily get grant money for this idea.
Migdalah - thanks for contacting me. I visited your page but there was no way to contact you. I hope that we can connect. Thanks for the comments everyone. This is the first notice I have received that there were comments or I would have posted sooner. Anthony
