Social Media Gateway For The Youth Cancer Culture
Social Media Gateway For The Youth Cancer Culture
Idea Description
I'm Too Young For This! (http://i2y.com) is a pioneering cancer advocacy, research and support foundation for young adults. For survivors aged 15-39, the past 30 years of "progress" have failed them because, in that time, incidence has doubled and 5-year survival remains unchanged. There's no reason to think the next decade will be different unless change starts now for this critically underserved population with unique needs to get busy living their lives (e.g. fertility/intimacy/sexuality, education, peer support, financial aid, insurance, employment) A need exists to organize/mobilize/activate Gen X/Y and educate providers through a custom social media solution.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
First, we will need to conduct psychosocial market research to gain a better understanding of the lifestyle of young adults with cancer to truly identify their unique needs. Next we will reverse engineer that data to hire software engineers and begin the process of developing the Web's first custom social media platform that harnesses the power of click and mortar peer support, targeted digital content and innovations in medical communications with the mission to end isolation and improve quality of life for young adults affected by cancer.
Vote for it now.

Cancer ****!! Survivors Rule!!! This is exactly what young adults need to be represented in a society that seems to be only familiar with very young and much older cancer survivors and fighters.
this would definitely help young adults get busy living.
Get Busy Living! i2y rocks!
This wonderful web resource for not only young adult cancer survivors, but ANYONE who would be interested in learning and participating in an online community of amazing people is top notch. i2y truly is making a difference in not only today's world, but the world as we know it for years to come.
It's amazing how many young adults are left out of the net that's supposed to catch you during a cancer diagnosis. So we turn to the "net" for our " safety net". With luck friends, family and supporters soften the blow...but having people who understand the cancer experience--that are our age---that's a little harder. i[2]y is there to not only link young adults to survivor peers but to allow a pathway for change in our own communities beyond the net.
It's time that doctors gave us time and take our symptoms for what they are. No one knows our bodies better than ourselves and this group will make the medical professionals take us seriously. I've been waiting for a group like this since I was diagnosed back in 2003!!
Great idea, Matt! I was actually visiting you on another site prior to this, and coincidentally saw you on here. I believe there's a great need for this cause. When you get a moment stop by.
As always you see the bigger, bigger picture and are taking public health by storm in a way that is tailored to the young adult community. In addition to ending isolation, I think your project will increase awareness in the medical community that will hopefully lead to doctors taking young adults symptoms more seriously prediagnosis.
word.
i2y rocks... lets kepp going!!

matt - you rock the body that rocks the party....what else can i say? i2y deserves warren buffet-sized funding. its a powerful, unique, engaging, helpful movement - growing stronger by the resolve of the young adults who benefit from it! i love you as much as any bostonian could love a new yorker.
Good luck on this! I would love to see this happen!
Brilliant idea--for much needed, important cause. Thank you, Matthew!
Matthew - As always you and the i2y team are leading the way for the young adults. I back you 100% and if there is anything I can ever do to help support i2y do not hesitate to reach out. Brian Dowd http://canceradvocacy.blogspot.com/
Vote "yes" to this idea because many people need this organization! We are the lucky few who are trying to convince doctors to see us while simultaneously negotiating with our student loan officers. Plus, all of us are awesome! And you will be too if you vote "yes"!
This idea rules! We're tired of being in 'no man's land'! Young adults with cancer are truly an underserved population who needs serious support and consideration. I'm all for it! Go i2y!
If one more cancer doctor says to me "You're too young to be in my office" I might scream!!! Yes, I know I am too young for this, but please take me seriously!!!!! This is a great idea!!
