T.A.G. - Web-Based Charity: T.A.G. Turning Actions into Good
T.A.G. - Web-Based Charity: T.A.G. Turning Actions into Good
Idea Description
Turning Actions into Good is a web-based non-profit charity which revolves around the kindness of strangers. The concept allows anyone to participate in a charity, regardless of financial status. Here is how the process works: Become a free member. Print off pre-made TAG-cards. Commit an act of kindness. Give the person a TAG-card which asks the stranger to do another act of kindness and go to the website to report about the deed that was done to them. After submitted, viewers can vote for the most touching act of the month. The leading vote getter would receive a cash prize and donation to the charity of their choice.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
The first thing I need is to build the website. I already have TurningActionsIntoGood.com purchased, but I need to work with a professional to get some tools for the website. Then, I will determine the expenses I have for the next 6 months and set that money aside. I will also put some money towards purchasing some items to sell on the site (Mugs, Bumper Stickets, etc...) to bring in some money for costs. Any other money will be put towards marketing the idea nation-wide.
This is an interesting idea. It would be really neat to see how quickly it could spread simple helpful acts of kindness. It would also be cool if instead of giving the person the cash prize, maybe either donating it to the charity of their choice or splitting it between them and the charity. I dunno. Just an idea.
Bethayp: I actually agree with you. However, wouldnt it take some of the drive out of the user to do good. If they know they are getting something they might work harder to do good deeds. My though is maybe a 50/50 split. Like the user gets half and gets to choose a charity for the other half?
I think your idea has great potential. Good work! Perhaps you can print a unique ID number on each TAG-card. For each act of kindness, the recipient could type in the ID number on the TAG web site. It would track how many acts you do, and you would get even more credit each act your recipients do for others, as well. Check out moo.com, they can help you with your TAG-cards. Thinking out loud here.
Very interesting idea - this could really become something special. Please take a look at my idea: huyuno.com. Hopefully you'll be one of our first users! Cheers mate!
I would start circulating this idea around Church Youth Groups and in high schools. Try contacting the community service clubs in your area and let them know about it. Once a few people take hold of the idea, it will blossom. Also, I like the 50/50 charity split. Otherwise, it might cause people to be good for selfish reasons. Good luck! I love the idea of encouraging people to "do good", but not so sure about the rewards system attached. I like LegacyofDestiny's idea about giving some to charity...and actually I think all of the prize should go to a charity of the winner's choice. Because it almost seems like a "bribe" to get people to perform acts of kindness to give them a cash prize. I guess anything that gets people to be more gentle in this world is a good thing, but I really like the idea of involving the charity. Good luck!
Great idea, but I share sentiments of some of the previous posters. It kind of defeats the purpose of random acts of kindness and good will if they are rewarded with a cash prize. For people like myself who are hard core volunteers (putting in 30, 40 hours a month or more) without a doubt, I think most of us would give ALL of the money to our favorite charity. If you want to recognize those going over and beyond, then perhaps you can have the home page of your website dedicated to those stories (TAG members of the month--keep them up for a year) where you essentially interview the people and some of their causes and why they gave their money to a specific charity. You can even do a little write up about what they do for a living, where they are from and make others connect with these 'r…moreeal ordinary people' out there continually doing extraordinary things. You could then leverage associations of non-profits and such for helping you to market your efforts to some extent because they are often looking for ways to raise awareness for their respective organizations with limited marketing budgets. So they can say something like 'Do Good...Twice'. Give individually and collectively by designating us as your Official TAG Charity. You could also go to media publications like 'Good Magazine' and seek their support with your targeted audience and the positioning of the offline component. Good Luck with your idea. Love and Laughter, Shonika
Hit me up if you have any charities on board. If you want I feel my company would be able to focus your idea a little bit more.

KEEP WINNING!
Greetings from Finland! This idea is absolutely Brilliant. Best of luck - it should win on principle. I hope it wins on your actions. Well done - hats off to you.
If more people would be kind to each other, what a wonderful world this would be. And it doesn't cost anything either GOOD LUCK Karen
Good idea! Putting a financial incentive on good-will is a good way to get people to help each-other. Sort of the same idea as putting emissions-caps on companies--'What's In It For Me?'

why would I need a TAG card to do something good? unfortunately, it would not be available to everyone, only people who have the internet or know how to use computers - and do those people really need more money, especially for doing something they should already be doing? i would hope that the last thing people would think about when they're doing something good is "oh, good, now i can register this online and have a chance to win something." maybe you should focus more on changing the mainstream news media, which too often shares the bad news about people rather than the good.
This idea is so amazing! I love that young people still have a sense of good doing in their nature! Best of wishes to you!
Wow - you need $10,000 to put this together???
It would cost much more then that if I wasnt already a bit of a web-designer. Plus getting the word out there and buying tools for the website will quickly eat up much of that money. However, I feel confident that with $10,000 this can start off running. Plus I already have some sponsers in line if I do win the comp.
Contact Joya Canham in New Mexico, she has a similar web site and non-profit "for-profit" thing going at www.thriving-together.com her model is somewhat based upon a concept where "Doing Goood is Good Business" initial project model at www.theconejo.org
WOW $10,000 needed to set up a web site??? Are you kidding.
Did you know deablob's website costs between 30,000 and 50,000?
Go Belmont! I hope we can pull one of this month!
GO TPS
you went to TPS right?
This reminds me of the movie "Pay it foreward" and the existing websites; The Pay it Foreward Foundation, The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation, The RAOK group, Acts of Kindness...and many others. Not exactly sure what makes your idea unique besides maybe your name?? Be careful not to replicate what has already been done.
Go TAG!
Great idea! Here's to hoping you win!
Sounds like a great idea, sorry i missed out on the voting...Hope you do well. David Brennan
