A basketball/casual shoe designed by famous designer; profits go to new orleans school kids. Shoes cost only $20
Idea Description
Based on the starbury shoe type of platform (site: http://www.starbury.com) A shoe that has a well known designer like Todd Oldham's design, maybe a fleur de lis, and the profits go to rebuilding the New Orleans school programs like art and music through a non-profit that's already had successes (http://www.kidsmart.org)
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
make a prototype and shop it to Steve & Barry's the manufacturers of Starburys or other interested shoe manufacturers, get Todd Oldham to commit to a design
Vote for it now.

Q1: What are my startup costs to get a shoe prototype?

You like it. You’re confused by it. You want to know more. Ask questions and post comments here.
Post a commenthow are you going to actually get people to commit? You posted this months ago...do you have a designer lined up? it's a great idea but i worry about your implementation.
Good thinking...I'd buy some
dave i think this is great. as with most things that cost considerably more $$$ than is used to make them, kids shoes come to mind as one of the most outragous. most of the time it seems like people choose to pay extra to advertise something. but sometimes quality stuff just isnt available cheap. i saw some skepticism about the marburys when they first came out. i dont know how good they are. maybe steve hollinger (local inventer) would also be willing to give feedback/ideas? i would also check with Loretta Gendville who owns a lot of the kids toys/clothing stores. hope you get it and good luck.
I'll sport 'em and support 'em!
Fantastic idea. One parents will appreciate as well as the kids!
great idea - just tell me what you need me to do when it comes to it!! love it! love it!
This is a good idea. There are many companies that can help you find a manufacturer, either domestic (if you're lucky) or foreign. There are also agents that can hook you up with factories throughout Asia. However, I would take this to another level and get your designer to work for you, in this instance, Todd Oldham. As you know, he is seriously connected with Target. I would focus on selling him 100% on the concept, then get him to help with the marketing by bringing it to Target. (The volume potential here is mind blowing- believe me, I know.) Mr. Oldham or Target might also help with setting up production. They don't normally do this, but if you can sell them the concept, they might go for it. Best of luck!
Great Idea Dave - go for it! Considering our son goes through a pair of sneakers a month, there's serious potential here to target footwear for both children and adults who not only will be attracted to cost but to the recognition of doing good for the community.
perfect idea Dave! Let me know if you need any help whatsoever...maybe get some of the HORNETS involved. Or have the kids at Cafe Reconcile wear the designer shoes as part of their uniform

Great idea Dave! I thank my friend (ariez) for forwarding this to me so I can vote for it. The shoes should have the fleur de lis on them somewhere to commemorate New Orleans! Just an idea. Good luck. I hope it wins!
I love it! Good luck Dave! I'll make to pass this along to all my friends in NOLA who want to see the city become a safer, better place.
pray for potatoes but pick up a ****. nice to see someone taking action.
Beautiful idea. Put a picture of an heirloom tomato on the side and we can co-brand it with Savvy Gourmet....nice work!
Dave Fabulous idea!!best of Luck KellyC
genius idea!
great idea and very affordable for those nola kids. at $20 bucks a pair, there's no reason to have to shoot each other in the face and steal them (or loot them).
You've got my vote!
Great Idea and the margins are there to produce the goods and make a profit. Regardless of where that profit is going. I remember a case study I once read on the real cost to manufacture athletic shoes. It was shocking to see the markup of the cost of goods vs. retail price.
YEAH U RITE! GREAT IDEA!
good idea Daverino! i'll help!!!!
Big names helping share the wealth for kids in New Orleans- Top shelf!
Great Idea! Rebuild New Orleans!!!
