Idea Description
A new "Eco-Smart" exhibit prototype for Children’s museums. Providing a natural environment to learn about caring for nature; this exhibit will be constructed entirely from green building supplies.
Objective: To bring the concepts of sustainable living to life for children so that they can imagine living in harmony with the Earth and each other.
Project to include:
• A Mini-Organic Farmer’s Market where children will taste organic fruits and vegetables native to their area.
• A Straw-Bale Solar Greenhouse to grow and harvest plants. It will be constructed using passive solar architecture to extend growing times in cold climates.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
ExPrT Exhibits (http://www.ExPrT.com) will use the money to purchase LEED's certified green building materials to fabricate the exhibit.
Once the prototype is complete, we will offer an opportunity for Children’s Museums and Nature Centers to win the exhibit in a “Eco-Smart” contest. We will also market this exhibit to additional Children’s Museums, Science Centers, Zoos and Nature Centers and build additional "Eco-Smart" exhibits with corporate sponsorship from organic food companies and other grantors.

Very exciting idea and very much needed in communities. This is a great way for children/families and all humanity to see reality of positive living with nature. Especially needed in city Childrens' Museums. The fact that many existing museums all over the country or world could feature such an exhibit is a practical step to then making such exhibits permanent. I really like having the greenhouse as well. I picture even several ajoining greenhouses, with produce and flowers. Children from the surrounding areas could participate with helping to care for gardening. A Montessori school I work at has their own greenhouse at school, for learning about plant care and gardening. The children absolutely love this work. It is such a wonderful way to promote not just healthy foods, but also healthy …more

Thanks! I love this idea. You should consider adding some education about the relationship between organics and fair trade to your list. Perhaps educating the kids about how their future buying purchases can make a difference not only for the environment, but also for farmers in developing countries.
