education for hope-- a non-profit to help those in Latin American countries
What advice do you have to help me grow my idea?
Idea Description
After visiting several Latin American countries, I have been given the chance to meet some of the most inspiring kids who were born into extreme poverty yet know what they need to get ahead-- education. However, they lack the tools and resources that most of us in developed countries take for granted. Some can't afford school supplies or uniforms, while others can't make the walk to school simply because it’s too far to make while hungry. This non-profit would aim to find these children and give them the tools they need to empower themselves to change their lives.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
1. Start the non-profit. Find a board, file the necessary paperwork, and get all of the legal business behind me. The money would be a big help for that.
2. Further research the communities which I would like to help first. I already have ideas of communities I know of, but I know there are so many more people in other places who need help that I don't even know about.
3. Generate support. Find donors and people who are generally interested in and enthused about the cause who will support me.
4. Get the supplies!
5. Start making changes.

Hey Mads88, I think your desire to help it great, but I think you need to choose your space and flesh out exactly what it is you will do. I spent time in Mexico and taught Mexican and Salvadorian students as an English Teacher in Texas, so I know the kind of grave needs you encountered. What are your exact activities are going to be and how you're going to carry them out--you listed a few: book and supply assistance, uniforms, transportation to school.--is that all? Great--this seems doable and the acitivities are all complementary. Then balance research with action. Speaking from experience, some folks will want you to have scores of research while others will want a tight business plan, numbers, and your action plan. I think you need to be somewhere in the middle and cater to your audience. But establsih the need, identify potential donors, and do enough homework before you incorporate or file for your 501c3.
