Spostage = Junk e-mail Postage - paid to you.
Idea Description
For those of us that still use Outlook/Thunderbird set up with an address from our Internet Service Providers or workplace, many times the built-in filtering and antivirus is not enough. sPostage.com would be a free service that would accurately filter email and allow junk e-mail to be delivered as long as the sender is willing to pay YOUR pre-set postage rate. Features:
-Blocks 99% of all **** using commercial-grade filtering
-Virus scan
-Delivery postage set by you (1-5 cents typical)
-Payout through Paypal
-Use existing email address, new address, or domain
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
-Lease space in well-connected data center for servers
-Determine which cost-effective filtering hardware, software, and services to leverage
-Pay collegues to help build: Web interface for users and advertisers, filtering back-end software
-Advertise to grow user and advertiser base

Q1: Would you sign up for this service? Is s.p.a.m / junk mail really not an issue for you?

I've used commercial services that do work - including Appriver (API) and various **** firewall products (****, Fortinet). They have full teams working for me at minimal cost. Some report their false positives at less than 1%. For those 1% the user receives a daily or weekly report they can quickly scan and resend messages. Think of it as a channel for legitimate (and high quality) unsolicited email communication. If someone *willingly* accepts unsolicited mail response rates are bound to jump, especially if the messages can be crafted to their interests. The large majority of advertisers/spammers would not come from your typical spammers, but they would have the option to go legit. If I had a penny for every **** that i got...
I see two problems: (1) "service that would accurately filter email": do you think you can do that? Because Google, Yahoo, and others have paid whole teams to do it and they're only mostly successful. Your filter would have false negatives (**** that get through) and the customers would expect to be paid for these. Who'll pay... you? (2) No spammer will pay. Really... they have 0.01 % response rates or less... why pay a thing?
