Student Shuttle Dormitory "Spaceports"
Student Shuttle Dormitory "Spaceports"
Idea Description
Since the cost of dormitory space continues to increase and along with it a shortage of space, Shuttle Educational Services, Inc., a non-profit corporation, formed in 2001 but dormant for a period due to other committments, has developed a modular dormitory program that enables students to build a "Cargo Bay Module" during their summer after graduating high school that they can live in while attending college and donate upon their graduation. A full derscription of the program is available at the website www.see-ses.com
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
Solicit sponsors of the program in all 50 states.
Continue with the construction of the first "Student Shuttle" to illustrate the viability of the idea in order to attract more sponsors.
Vote for it now.

Good idea!
I live in something similar in the Netherlands; they're very basic, but great for students! Here is more info: http://mocoloco.com/archives/000821.php
Thanks you jennyc for this information, I have been to the website of Spacebox and requested information. Thanks again for taking the time to contact me!
16 Jan 2008 Excellent and outstanding ideas at www.see-ses.com For years, the public education sector, and private industry, have been moaning about the scarcity of students going into science and engineering, and wringing their hands on what to do. This website, www.see-ses.com provides FOUR terrific solutions: 1. Encouraging high school students to consider studying the sciences and engineering in college, and helping them get started in that direction; 2. Reduce the overall cost of a college degree by providing portable, state-of-the-art housing; 3. Reduces housing congestion, or the lack of dormitory space, on college campuses; and 4. Gives corporations, companies, foundations and individuals an opportunity to enhance the education of our youth in th…moree sciences (PHYSICS, Math, biology, chemistry, etc. ) and in engineering, and simultaneously get a tax deduction when they file their federal and/or state income tax returns. 1/16/2008 What a fabulous and terrific idea. Wish it had been available when I went to college (UTEP, formerly known as Texas Western College). They had the land available for a program such as this, but few incentives for Physics majors. Hope the word gets out to corporations, and foundations, and individuals, and companies, and philanthropists, so they'll fund this project and steer youth to the sciences and engineering. M. A. M. I'd definitely be interested in learning more. Keep up the enthusiasm! Check out my idea when you have a chance, huyuno.com. Hopefully you'll be one of the site's first members! Cheers :)
17 Jan 2008 Robert Rivard, Editor, San Antonio Express-News (and Cynthia, mgt team) 250-3111 Bob Richter, Public Editor (210) 250-3264 Jena Heath, Education Editor 250-3102 Lindsay Kastner, reporter for K-12 grades 250-3207 Melissa Ludwig, reporter for colleges 250-3194 I spoke with most of you either yesterday or today, and indicated I would be sending the information by e-mail, regarding an issue of great interest to the public, and of particular interested to the education sector. The Shuttle Educational Services (SES) goal is to generate and stimulate interest in students, young people, and teachers, so they will consider careers in Physics, Math, Chemistdry, the other sciences, and in engineering. SES has been in the planning phase…more about 12 years, in the development phase about seven years, and is now nearing the "launch" phase. For years, teachers, private industry, both the state and federal government, legislators, and the education sector have moaned and lamented the decrease of students graduating with degrees in the sciences and in engineering. Also decried is the degredation of our home grown scientific pool, and of the United States losing its status of being at the cutting edge of technology in the world. SES offers a solution, at little or no cost to the taxpayer. In addition to stimulating interest in the scientific and engineering fields, SES provides students in the program with hands-on experience, and lowers the cost of a college education. SES Mission Control has three teams: the blue team, the red team, and the white team. Detailed information can be obtained at: www.see-ses.com Further, interested schools, organizations, foundations, teachers and individuals can request a power point presentation (audio, video and slides; 11MB ) by submitting their name and e-mail address thru the reference website. If you wish to make a comment about the program, after you have visited the website, or to read what others have said, you may do so at: http://www.ideablob.com/ideas/1168-Student-Shuttle-Dormitory-Spac Miguel A. Stop clemypete from writing so many comments - they're very long winded. 8>)
I have known Mr. Martinez for many, many years. He will always be long winded (just a characteristic of a physicist very attentive to details). I guess we just need more time and SPACE. Thanks for the comment :)
Very intriguing, but where does one go for ritual ablutions ? to void ? to replenish nourishing sustenance ? When the modules are connected does that mean that one's living space can become an expressway ? what about noise form other modules ? can that be heard ?
RE: Magimarloz comments: All Student modules are complete standalone units with kitchens and bathrooms. Soundproffing between units provides for no sound transmission thru walls. There is a corridor that runs the length of the shuttle that is separate from the modules, just like a hallway in a dormitory. We will be posting models on our website in the future that enable someone to access and view using Google Sketchup (a free download). Thanks for excellent comments!
