Healthcare Services Reverse Auction
Healthcare Services Reverse Auction
Idea Description
The concept is based on the growing demand for Consumer Driven Healthcare to help drive down the cost of healthcare. There are 47 million people uninsured and another 50 million underinsured. As a result of the high costs of healthcare services people simply cannot afford to receive adequate healthcare.
This service would provide allow people to say they need some sort of medical procedure then the doctors and hospitals would bid to provide the service. It could be opened up to include international doctors to support medical tourism (a $60-$100 Billion industry).
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
First, I would thank everyone who voted for the idea! Then this money will help cover additional research and business plan definition. This is a high-value service but it's really complex. It will also help offset the cost of additional fundraising from private and institutional investors.
Vote for it now.

What advice do you have to help me grow my idea?
Great idea, but I would also like to know for example if you would get health covearge if you found out you were diagnosed with a serious illness and still get the coverage even though you were uninsured. I know thats the case with health insurance companies out there. They will deny coverage if you were previously diagnosed with a serious illness from a stroke or rheumatoid arthritis as such. The health insurance companies won't insure you unless you were already insured before you knew you were diagnosed with the physical illness.
heck yes! Check out my idea when you have the chance...I'd like you to be one of my site's first users! Cheers!!!
Everything I hear now is about the rising cost of healthcare and it's time for healthy competition. This is a great idea and feel this approach is long overdue.
44sunSpots: That's an excellent idea. Just gaining access to the system online itself could present a problem. I would include establishing partnerships with library systems and the public health agencies to help facilitiate this in my business plan. Thanks for the great contribution!
If you had kiosks for this service in libraries, malls, DSHS offices, and emergency rooms then poor people may get educated while waiting. Then they could participate in an auction when needed.
Any idea which utilizes technology to support a business cause and works towards optimizations is considered to be most effective. Idea of getting healthcare services wiz a wiz at best available rate will definetly attract more individuals to get themselves registered. I am for this idea as this can work for masses.
kbuesing: I think what you're talking about is transparency for the consumer. I agree wholeheartedly that there are additional models to support within this service that end up in the same place: reduced cost and transparency. Your idea is an excellent evolution of the service. Thanks for the vote!
Who is bidding on what? Is the patient asking for services and having the provider bid on the service? Why not have the providers subscribe to this service and post their fees so the consumer can make an educated choice? With HRA's and HSA's this causes the consumer to be more aware of the cost of an office visit or xray, it is coming out of their pocket first. Yes, PPO discounts are still in place, but the patients rarely know what the actual charges are for certain procedures, like a simple office visit. Then they could make the choice if they want to go to the Mayo Clinic and pay more, or go to the family clinic down the street. Interesting concept, but there would need to be alot of thought put into it. Could work.
I'm favor of any & all health care services strategies that bypass 3rd party pay. connect consumers & providers directly and hold them both accountable for the cost of services and our health care system will inherently become more efficient and more responsive. This is a great idea!
