Online: Poll your school, vote, see what campus thinks.
Online: Poll your school, vote, see what campus thinks.
Idea Description
People want to know what their community is thinking. On Openvote, members of any community (a college campus, company, or even town) can poll each other, vote, discuss polls, and see what people care about most and how others voted. Each person gets one vote per poll (anonymous votes allowed). For colleges, each school has its own site and ONLY they can participate. But poll RESULTS can be viewed by anyone -- alumni, prospective students, other schools, parents, the media, etc. This will force school officials to engage and care about students and their opinions when making decisions.
What will you do if you win $10,000 for this idea?
A fellow grad student and I launched test sites at two colleges this fall (funded entirely by our credit cards). The tests worked - students cast over 50,000 votes in the first month alone. When one school was considering expanding, over 800 students voted on it. When the local media did stories about big issues facing each school, they now covered what students thought, using Openvote. Now we need to make improvements and quickly grow to new colleges– our goal is 10 by spring and 50+ by summer break, using cheap viral marketing and existing social network platforms.
Vote for it now.

This is the best idea ever. I LOVE it!
Thanks! We're pretty excited, we just need to take it to the next level now....
Thanks. We think making community opinion really transparent will be make a huge difference in how decisions get made...
